To really understand #China, you have to get to know its people. Winston "SerpentZA" Sterzel travels across China's first tier cities - Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen - meeting the cities' most fascinating people, including a racy nude photographer, a mosquito breeding scientist and a DIY maker challenging gender and tech stereotypes.

he practice of traditional acupuncture involves more than the insertion of needles.
The Chinese word for acupuncture is zhenjiu (针ēø). The first character ā€˜zhenā€™ means needle, the second character ā€˜jiuā€™ means moxibustion. Moxibustion is the burning of a herb called moxa (Chinese mugwort) to warm specific parts of the body, including acupuncture points.
ā–« Other techniques such as cupping, guasha and tuina massage have also been used alongside acupuncture for thousands of years. During treatments, acupuncturists may make dietary recommendations or suggest specific exercises such as taijiquan and qigong.
ā–« During winter our bodies can struggle with the cold on both an emotional and physical level. Warming techniques and the practice of Chinese medicine can help. Reach out to your local practitioner for ways acupuncture and Chinese medicine can support you.

The Medicine of Peace in Pictures - AWB 2023

An article by John McDonald and Matthew Bauer on treating chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, was recently published in the peer reviewed ā€œMedical Acupunctureā€ journalā€™s special edition on electro-acupuncture. For a limited time it is available for free viewing.

John McDonald and Matthew Bauer had been busy putting together a wealth of research on acupunctureā€™s ability to treat peripheral neuropathy as part of the Acupuncturist Now Foundationā€™s campaign to get acupuncture recognized as the top treatment for this widespread condition.

During the review of recent research, they found something you virtually never see in research done on acupuncture ā€“ more than one published paper suggesting electro-acupuncture may make a painful medical condition worse.

The ANF team decided to take a more detailed dive into this subject just as the Medical Acupuncture journal put out a call for papers on electro-acupuncture for a special edition.

Please take a look at what was found and share widely. Free access will end on February 13. Here is the link.

The Moxafrica charity is still looking for participants for their research into the possible value of moxibustion in the treatment of long covid.
Do you know somebody that is suffering from long covid, or do you suffer from this condition yourself? And would they like to participate in a scientific trial regarding the treatment of this condition? Please let them know about the 100 day moxa challenge, by Moxafrica.

    Taking out the Brain Garbage
If you were wondering why Traditional Chinese Medicine puts such an emphasis on good sleep, this may be a big reason: The central nervous system (CNS) is the only organ in the entire body that lacks its own, defined lymphatic drainage system. The glymphatic system, which is short for glial-dependent lymphatic transport, was only recently discovered (2012). It is a waste clearance system that utilizes a unique system of channels formed by astrocytes to promote the elimination from the central nervous system (CNS).
